Forget chocolates and flowers, how about naming a cockroach after your ex and watching it become dinner for an animal?
This year, several zoos across the U.S. are offering heartbroken souls the chance to turn their breakup into a delicious act of revenge.
From the San Antonio Zoo to the Bronx Zoo, these Valentine’s Day specials are as cathartic as they are hilarious.
1. San Antonio Zoo: "Cry Me a Cockroach"
For those who want closure with a side of justice, the San Antonio Zoo offers the chance to name a cockroach after your ex—and then feed it to one of their animals.
Here’s how it works: $10: Name a cockroach after your ex.
$25: Upgrade to a rodent if you’re feeling extra salty.
$5: Name a vegetable and watch it get devoured.
Want to relive the moment? You can even purchase a video of the feeding and share it with friends.
2. Bronx Zoo: A More Symbolic Take
If you prefer a less crunchy kind of closure, the Bronx Zoo’s Name-a-Roach program has you covered.
For a small donation, you can name a Madagascar hissing cockroach after your ex. While these cockroaches aren’t fed to animals, the program offers digital and printable certificates to make it official.
For $15, you’ll get a digital certificate, and for an additional donation, you can receive upgrades like:
A roach belt bag
A plush cockroach
A virtual Wild Encounter to meet a live Madagascar hissing cockroach and chat with zoo experts
3. El Paso Zoo’s "Quit Bugging Me" Event
The GLOBAL phenomenon is back! The El Paso Zoo & Botanical Gardens is once again taking names for its annual "Quit Bugging Me" promotion—a fun way to let go of that lingering grudge.
Got an ex, annoying boss, or mother-in-law who’s been bugging you? The zoo invites you to submit their name and make them part of the event.
While no donation is required to participate, the zoo encourages contributions through the Paso Del Norte Community Foundation to help support its mission.
Funds raised from the promotion go toward wildlife conservation, animal enrichment, and professional development opportunities for zoo staff.
