A 160-acre Colorado ranch with a nearly 17,000-square-foot main house has sold for $14.7 million, listing records show.

The sale, which closed on Oct. 12, was the most expensive recorded this year in the Denver area, according to listing records, according to Brittany Morgan with The Northrop Group at Compass, who co-listed the property with Ronda Courtney of Re/Max Leaders.

“After being on and off the market for over three years, we successfully closed the deal,” Morgan said in an email. “This sale not only sets a new benchmark for the Denver metro area but also surpasses Jefferson County’s previous highest-price property record.”

In 1991, the sellers—John and Debi Medved, who own six Colorado car dealerships—started to create what they called Bear Creek Ranch with a $1.1 million purchase of a former ski resort, according to records with PropertyShark.

They designed their residence after St. Catherine’s Court—a 16th-century manor house gifted by King Henry VIII to his tailor and once owned by the actress Jane Seymour, The Wall Street Journal reported when the property first listed in 2020.

At that time, the price tag was $37 million. The property has gone through a variety of price cuts and agencies since then—including dividing the acreage up into smaller parcels.

The mansion was first listed independently in 2022 for $12.9 million but removed from the market six months later, only to reappear in May 2023 for $14.9 million.

The buyer was an LLC, but Mansion Global could not identify who was behind it. The agents declined to comment.

The nine-bedroom, 10-bathroom estate features details such as Corinthian columns, English-style fireplaces—there’s a hickory wood fireplace with candelabras and carved Elizabethan figures in the living room—and cathedral ceilings, The Wall Street Journal reported when it listed. There’s also a study with a stone fireplace and a ceiling fresco of buffalo, Texas Longhorn cattle and a stagecoach.
