The officials from the Ministry of Construction said that the construction of Yangon elevated expressway project to be implemented in eight townships, with some of the houses and buildings will be affected, mostly in North Okkalapa township.

Yangon elevated expressway will be constructed in Mingala Taungnyunt, Tarmwe, Thingangyun, South Okkalapa, Mayangon, North Okkalapa, Mingaladon and Insein townships.
In addition to North Okkalapa township, some of the houses and buildings in South Okkalapa and Mayangon townships will also be affected a little. However, it will not need the relocation, according to the Ministry of Construction.
Deputy Minister of Construction U Kyi Zaw Myint said that the Ministry of Construction will calculate compensation and resettlement support for the project and will provide social assistance.
The Ministry of Construction said that the most affected location will be around Kyaukyetwin bus stop, North Okkalapa township.
The ministry said that in addition, the project will also affect the areas around the industrial zone in South Okkalapa township, adding that the affected buildings would be surveyed.
It has a total length of 27 km (over 16 miles) and about 30 meters (100 feet) wide. It will be about 30 feet high. The ministry said that the ground-breaking work could begin by the end of June 2020.
The project will take three and a half years and can be used in 2025. The project, which will be built to withstand the quake, will cost between $ 800 million and $ 1 billion, and will cost between 1,300 to 2,800 kyats per vehicle. The tender will be for 35 years.
