Mukesh Ambani — an Indian national who’s the richest man in Asia, one of the wealthiest billionaires on Earth and a strategic partner to India’s prime minister Narendra Modi — is known for his fantastical 27-story residence in Mumbai.
But not all of his properties are as palatial. An entity tied to Ambani has sold a $9 million residence in Manhattan’s West Village, Gimme Shelter can reveal. The fourth-floor condo is at 400 W. 12th St., otherwise known as Superior Ink.
At 2,406 square feet, the home features two bedrooms (converted from three), 3½ baths — and stunning Hudson River views. Details include 10-foot-high ceilings, herringbone hardwood floors, noise-proof windows and a chef’s kitchen.
Ambani heads Reliance Industries, which owns the Jamnagar Refinery, the largest oil refinery in the world. India’s neutrality in Russia’s war on Ukraine has been profitable for Reliance, which is buying crude oil from Russia on the cheap, thanks to wartime Western sanctions — and selling it processed to Southeast Asia, Europe, the United States and other countries, according to reports.

Superior Ink residents have, over the years, included Hilary Swank, Nascar’s Jimmie Johnson, designer Marc Jacobs and billionaire Leslie Alexander, who paid $25.46 million for his raw-space penthouse and sold it for $31.5 million to “space tourist” Mark Shuttleworth in 2010.
Launched in 2009, the building boasts amenities including a residents’ lounge, a gym with a yoga/Pilates room, a children’s playroom and a bike room, along with a concierge and valet parking.
The 17-story building, formerly the Superior Ink Factory, dates to 1919. The eco-friendly design is by Robert A.M. Stern Architects with interiors by Yabu Pushelberg.
The listing broker was Gladys Laurie Cooper of Douglas Elliman. The buyer was repped by Jenny Lenz of Dolly Lenz Real Estate.
