The pop-music icon owned the Tuscan-style estate from 1992 to 2000
Homes may come and homes may go, but the opportunity to own a waterfront mansion once occupied by Madonna doesn’t come along very often.
The “Material Girl” and “Vogue” singer’s former estate on Miami’s exclusive Brickell Avenue has sold for $29 million, Mansion Global has learned, about one month after it was first listed.
Madonna purchased the property for $4.9 million in 1992 and owned it until 2000, spending $700,000 on renovations, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported in 2000.
She owned the home before the current seller, Gunther Corp., according to listing agents Ruthie Assouline and Ethan Assouline with The Assouline Team at Compass. Julian Johnston of The Corcoran Group represented the buyer. Neither the seller nor the buyer could be reached for comment Thursday.
The estate is situated on a 51,000-square-foot lot with 100 feet of water frontage that offers views of Biscayne Bay and the city, as well as a private dock, according to the agents.
“There is a feeling of South Florida grandeur from the minute you arrive on the property, via royal palm trees guiding you to the residence all the way to the expansive and private waterfront views,” Ms. Assouline wrote in an email.
The home itself spans nearly 8,700 square feet, with nine bedrooms and eight and a half bathrooms. Both the house and the pool are positioned 20 feet above sea level, she added.
Madonna sold the estate for $7.5 million cash to an entity called Gunther Corp. in 2000, according to property records.
But the pop singer wasn’t the only reason why that transaction stoked attention. Gunther Corp. claimed to represent a German Shepherd canine named Gunther that had inherited a fortune and whose handlers planned to live in the house while pursuing careers as entertainers and investors, the Sun Sentinel reported at the time.

The dubious story of the millionaire dog resurfaced again when the home was listed in November for $32 million and was eventually debunked. The Associated Press reported that the tale of the dog buying the property appears to “be a ruse created by Maurizio Mian,” who it identified as head of an Italian pharmaceutical company, “who has used the tale of the globe-trotting canine to promote real estate sales and other projects.”
A deed for the latest sale has yet to log in public property records, so the newest owner of Madonna’s former home could not be determined. One thing’s for sure, it’s still not a dog.
