The former Kennedy family estate in Palm Beach, Florida, that had been in the stewardship of New York billionaire Jane Goldman since 2015 has sold for $70 million in an off-market deal, property records show.
Located on North Ocean Boulevard with 200 feet of ocean frontage, the approximately one-acre property has a 1920s Mediterranean-style main residence and outbuildings with a total of 15,347 square feet of living space, including 11 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms and three half-bathrooms, according to a previous listing.
The buyer’s identity was shielded by a trust, according to the deed recorded by Palm Beach County Clerk on June 18.
Known as president John F. Kennedy’s “Winter White House,” the compound was purchased by his father, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., in 1941, according to his biographers. John F. Kennedy is said to have written his Pulitzer Prize-winning book, “Profiles in Courage,” at the house while recovering from back surgery in 1956. In 1963, the president spent the weekend there before heading to Dallas, where he was assassinated.
The Kennedy family sold the property in 1995 for $4.9 million to John. K. Castle, chairman and chief executive officer of Castle Harlan, a medical publishing company. Mr. Castle held the property for 20 years until he sold it to Ms. Goldman, property records show.
The Palm Beach Daily News first reported the sale.
