The Countries Where The Most People Donate Money To Charity [Infographic]

The latest edition of the Charities Aid Foundation's World Giving Index surveyed 1.3 million people across 128 nations to determine the most and least generous countries worldwide. As in previous years, people in Myanmar were the most likely to donate money to charity with 81% of respondents stating that they had made such a donation during the past month. Myanmar consistently tops studies about charitable giving, primarily due to the strong influence of Theravada Buddhists practising Sangha Dana, where many people believe that doing good in this life improves their chances of their next life being a better one.

The report notes that despite Myanmar's top score this year, the number of people making financial donations has actually dropped significantly due to the political and social crisis in the country. Theravada Buddhism is also practiced by most people in Thailand and it also has a high ranking as a result with 71% of people donating money to charity over the past month. The United Kingdom, Malta and the Netherlands also have higher than average levels of generosity and they complete the top-five. The United States is just outside the top-10 in the giving league with 61% of its respondents donating money to charity in the past month.
