Calvin Klein Inc. co-founder Barry K. Schwartz and his wife, Sheryl, have listed their roughly 740-acre spread in Westchester County for that nine-figure sum. The Wall Street Journal first reported the listing.
The mere size of the property, named Stonewall Farm, makes it among Westchester’s largest privately owned properties, the Journal says. The price, meanwhile, appears to make this listing the most expensive in the county.
Located in Granite Springs, a hamlet in the town of Somers, the sprawling estate has a 40-stall barn, two 24-stall barns, a turf racetrack and riding trails.
The couple has bred or raced some 65 horses there, some of which have competed in the Kentucky Derby.
The family purchased 673 acres of Stonewall for $3.25 million in 1979, adding the additional acreage not long after.
The striking four-story home on the property, which was completed in 2003, features a white clapboard facade and a slate roof repurposed from the Yale Divinity School.
“I felt that it would bless the house, and it has,” Sheryl told the Journal.
The 24,000-square-foot interior has eight bedrooms, a two-story library and a 2,200-bottle wine cellar.
Outside, there are Japanese-style gardens, a butterfly garden and a 4,000-square-foot building that houses a 60-foot pool with spa, a gym and a sauna.
The couple chose to put their beloved spread on the market because they’re not spending much time there. Half the year, they’re in Santa Barbara, Calif.; then they head to upstate New York horse haven Saratoga for several months during the racing season.
Barry, along with his childhood friend Calvin Klein, founded the label in 1968. Together they sold it to Phillips-Van Heusen in 2003 in a deal valued at some $730 million.
