The launching ceremony of Yangon-Cocokyun islands ferry service held at Myanma Five Star Shipping Line’s Thaketa Township’s jetty was attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein on January 21.
In his opening remarks, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein said Cocokyun islands is one of the key security areas in Myanmar. The ferry service won’t be allowed for holiday trips. The ferry service is mainly intended for social development of people in the region and therefore it would result in loss in profit.
The six-day round trip will cost 20 million kyats, which will be paid from YRTA funds,” the chief minister said. He added that the ferry service is mainly intended for social development and government staff working on Coco islands.
The launching ceremony was attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, Minister of Electricity, Industry, Transport and Communication Daw Nilar Kyaw, Minister of Immigration and Human Resources Daw Moe Moe Su Kyi, a member of Secretaries of State and Regional Government U Myo Aung Htay and officials from YRTA.
The first Yangon-Cocokyun islands voyage was operated by Thaharpati vessel, carrying 38 passengers and over 280 tons of cargo.
