Celebs owning super-expensive properties isn’t something new. Think Lin Ching Hsia and her S$190mil mansion that’s as big as 35 four-room HDB flats. Or Jay Chou's S$27mil two-storey luxury penthouse with a reported 360-degree view of Taipei.
Jet Li’s mansion in Shanghai is just as ostentatious, After all, it was once referred to as ‘The Number One Celeb Crib In China’. But what’s raising eyebrows isn’t its 200mil yuan (S$40mil) price tag... but the terrible state it’s in now.
(What Jet's mansion looks like from the outside)
Jet bought the mansion, which is situated in a prime location in Pudong, back in 2008. But he never moved in. Rumour has it that he bought it with the intention of using it as dowry for one of his daughters.
12 years has passed since then, and the house has fallen into disrepair, its outer walls stained with age. Recently, it was reported that the mansion has been turned into a dormitory for security guards. Photos published by the Chinese press showed that the house now has a vegetable garden and also rows and rows of bamboo poles used to hang laundry.

Netizens were dumbfounded by the reports, with one remarking: “Why would Jet need to rent his house out? Does he even know that there are people are living there? Imagine waking up one morning to read about your house being inhabited by strangers!”
Another added: “If they’re doing this without his knowledge, it just goes to show how thick-skinned some people are. This isn’t just a random house, it’s a house that regular people will never be able to afford in their lives. I really want to know what happened here.”
(Its inhabitants built this for their vegetables to grow on)
Jet has not responded to the reports at press time, but everyone's definitely keeping their eyes and ears peeled for more updates on what exactly is going on.
