Mormon doomsday author Chad Daybell has been convicted in the murders of two of his children and one of his wives. He now faces the possibility of the death penalty. But his infamous home in Idaho remains under controversial ownership.
Let’s review how his house is now owned by a man who also represents Daybell.

Daybell was convicted in the murders of his first wife, and his second wife’s two children.
His second wife, Lori Vallow Daybell, was also convicted in the murders of her two children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 17, in 2019.
The remains of the two children were discovered on the property of the Rexburg, ID, ranch house owned by Daybell, in June 2020 following a months long search.
The murders were apparently part of a “doomsday” plot.

In April 2023, Vallow Daybell was sentenced to multiple life sentences with no chance of parole for murdering her children and conspiring to kill Daybell’s first wife.
She claimed that she’s not guilty of killing her kids, and she told the court that her children have visited her and are “happy in heaven.”

In an odd twist, real estate played a role in Daybell’s trial.
As we reported last year, property records show that Daybell signed over ownership of his home to his attorney, John Prior, in 2021.
Property records show Prior still owns the home.

Prior acquired the home via a quitclaim deed in May 2021, the same month Daybell hired him.
This deed transfers ownership of the property, which may have been done to help cover Daybell’s legal expenses.
Built in 1960, the 1,644-square-foot, four-bedroom home sits on just under 4 acres of land.
Property records show annual property taxes of about $1,700 and an assessed value of around $390,000.
