A dad has told how he spent £3,000 on a six-room house in Bulgaria – after growing frustrated with not being able to buy a family home in the UK.
Rob Davies, 35, from Scotland, bought the run-down mansion after spotting it on eBay.
Mr Davies said he took the risk after finding himself unable to get on the property ladder in the UK. He decided to buy the property in Golyamo Krushevo, in Bulgaria, which is 20 miles north of the Turkish border, but it will need a lot of work.
It was ‘totally random’ according to Mr Davies, who is looking forward to having half an acre of land to get busy with.

He said: ‘I’m always looking for properties on the market, to see if there are any bargains out there. ‘I was just doing a random search on eBay, just typing in properties to see what there is. And that’s how it came about.’
Rob’s new house is said to have been built over 100 years ago – but since the 1980s it has been empty and abandoned.
The property has no fitted bathrooms, kitchen, windows, electricity, or running water. But Rob insists he isn’t daunted by the challenge, he is simply delighted to be investing in his family’s future.
He added: ‘It’s a gamble, and I’ve had my highs and I’m having my lows. I’m missing my family but I’m also on a high really because I’m achieving stuff.
‘I’m fixing the floors, I’m getting to see how they built the house when it was originally built, and I’m having a laugh along the way.’
