arlier today, news broke that the De Blasio administration has hashed out a deal with JPMorgan Chase to demolish its existing headquarters at 270 Park Avenue, and replace the structure with a shiny new 70-story building. The deal was negotiated in the wake of the Midtown East rezoning, which loosened zoning regulations for the area in exchange for developers providing street-level and infrastructure improvements. But lost in the coverage was any mention of the building’s historic importance: It’s one of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill’s many midcentury commissions (including Lever House, which is just a few blocks away from the Chase HQ), but one of few designed by a woman working...

A trio of buildings are set to break the Petronas Twin Towers’ longstanding record as Malaysia’s tallest structures, Free Malaysia Today reported. Tentatively known as Tower M, the planned skyscraper will rise 145 storeys, eclipsing the 118-storey PNB 118 development launched under former Prime Minister Najib Razak. Critics have derided PNB 118, a project of the state-run fund management company Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), as wasteful and extravagant. The announcement of Tower M arose in the wake of Najib’s arrest earlier this month for allegedly embezzling USD4.5 billion from state coffers. KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd, the owner of the Petronas Twin...
