The fire-gutted Mingalar Market that burned four years ago will be rebuilt within months, the chairman of Mingalar Market Rebuilding Committee and regional Minister for Electricity, Energy and Construction U Zarni Aung said. It will be rebuilt with a new design rather than the previous one.
About 150 stall owners and sellers staged a protest yesterday for the design of the market and replacing. They demanded the market to be built as soon as possible in accordance with their wishes and the promises of Mandalay Region Government. They said they don’t want irresponsible people and the market’s basements and they want the ground floor to be restored as before.
The Mingalar Market was set on fire in the evening of March 22, 2016 and a total of 297 housing flats, offices, showrooms and clothes shops were burned down. The temporary market for stall owners was opened at the Gawyar Compound on 35th Street.
