Granting Car Permit Is For Riding, Not For Sale

U Min Min, Director General of Directorate of Commerce said that the government’s vehicle import permits is only for riding. The government will take action against those if they sell cars back.

If a car is imported regularly, tax is deducted between 100 and 150% of the car’s value based on engine power, port tax and Road Transport Administration Department’s initial tax.

But the permit is now being granted by the government to government servants, senior government officials with over 25 years of work experience. Those would get the above exemption.

Due to exemption from tax, car permit is priced at over 500 lakhs according to outside sources. The government’s vehicle import permit is only for riding and it would take action against those if they sell cars back.

According to civil servants statistics, there are between 500 and 700 Director Generals and above and there are 33,295 senior government officials with over 25 years of work experience who have received the certificate of good civil staff. The process of obtaining car permit for civil servants is not immediately available.
