The Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development today provided new houses to 600 low income families in the Colombo District.
The ceremony to hand over the houses was held at the Mihindu Senpura housing complex in Dematagoda under the patronage of Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.
The Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development distributed these houses to those families who lost their houses to the development projects in Colombo district.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Ranawaka media said by the end of this year, they expect to provide 15,000 houses in the city of Colombo to low income families.
"We will also an agreement this month with the Asian Infrastructure investment Bank (AIIB) for 5,500 more houses. We expect that by 2023, about 40,000 houses will be built in Colombo and a Colombo city will be without shanties," Minister Ranawaka said.
We do not distribute houses on any political necessity. Houses are distributed to people of any party, who live in shanties and no permanent houses," the Minister added.
