While Bing Crosby crooned about dreaming of a “White Christmas,” it seems that what he was really hankering for was escaping to his ranch outside Elko, NV.
The nearly 3,000-acre cattle ranch once owned by the singer in the 1940s has become available for $7.28 million. The property's current owner purchased it in 2010.
The star, who died in 1977, became enamored with the area in 1944, when he purchased the first of seven properties in Elko. He owned his Nevada spread until 1958, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
"He could be himself there. He really wanted his kids to grow up on a ranch. He put them to work out there," says listing agent Todd Renfrew.
Located 45 miles north of Elko, Lawson Ranch has enough grazing for over 600 head of cattle. It still has the original cabin from the homesteading era on the land. It's “reminiscent of the old West, yet complete with updated modern conveniences,” the listing description notes.
The property includes a remodeled, 5,000-square-foot, five-bedroom, five-bath main house, currently used as a bed and breakfast. There are three additional guest homes, as well as a private airstrip and a large hangar.
Two large, fully enclosed hay barns, one heated repair shop, and enclosed equipment storage make this “your quintessential turnkey Western cattle ranch,” as the listing puts it. The picturesque property has plenty of green, and offers views of the Independence Mountains as a backdrop. "It’s a really beautiful property," Renfrew says.
