Built in 1904, this lavender painted-lady Victorian for sale in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood is certainly eye-catching. Dig below the beautiful surface of the $2 million manse, and you'll learn that one of the city’s most famous singers once owned the classic home.
Billy Corgan, lead singer and songwriter of the Smashing Pumpkins, lived in this vintage seven-bedroom, 4.5-bath home from 1993 to 2001.
While the rocker was ready to part with the place in 2000, it languished on the market for a year. Corgan finally sold it in 2001 for $1 million and then downsized to a two-bedroom, $2.95 million Gold Coast condominium, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Now, the Victorian's current owners are ready to move on. Between 2003 and 2006, the owners embarked on a massive floor-to-ceiling renovation of the Queen Anne-style Victorian. From the gold-leaf house numerals above the front door to its stained-glass windows, both the interior and exterior have been lovingly restored.
The woodwork and trim on French doors, the stairwell, crown molding, bay windows, and piano windows are all in immaculate condition. There's a fireplace in the downstairs sitting room, and another one in the dining room, where a crystal chandelier introduces period bling, along with the box-beam ceiling. As in all the rooms, the ceilings are 10 feet in height.
The kitchen has been updated to meet today’s culinary standards, including granite countertops, an open layout, and a five-burner range, and the original butler’s pantry provides additional storage.
One of the seven bedrooms—all but one are on the second and third floors—features a private deck.
