Most of the Foreign Investment Hotels Are Being Run By BOT System

Most foreign investment hotels are being operated with B.O.T (Build Operate Transfer) system. After the full contract, these hotels must be transferred to the Government, said Union Ministry of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

Hotel and Tourism Industry will develop through the private operation process. Therefore, Myanmar Tourism Law was released in 1990. In 1993, the law was amended as Myanmar Hotel & Tourism Law and the private companies have been allowed to run the hotel and lodge industry, travel services, transport and tour guide services according to the new Myanmar Hotel & Tourism Law.

There are 36 foreign investment hotels until the end of January 2018. Some of them are being run by BOT system, Union Minister said.

The 36 foreign investment hotels include 6,165 rooms and the total investment amount in that sector is US$ 2.3 billion, according to the official data.

In the whole Myanmar, there are 1,569 foreign investment hotels with 58,414 rooms and K 2300 billion of total investment amount until the end of January 2018.

The large amount of investment for the Hotels and Tourism Industry is by the local private sector under the supervision of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
