Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Central Committee accepts Second SEZ project led by Chief Minister of Yangon Region
SEZ Central Committee accepts Second SEZ project of Yangon Region led by Chief Minister of Yangon Region, said U Aung Soe, Director-General of Ministry of Commerce, in charge of special economic zones.
U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region submits the proposal of second SEZ project to Special Economic Zone Centre on 5th December, 2017. In this proposal, the benefits and process concerning with establishing of SEZ project are presented.
“That project is Chief Minister’s idea for the future. It is not sure whether the project has probability or not. We have to assess in details but Vice President accepts that proposal”, U Aung Soe said.
It is needed to access whether there can be probability economically. However, the Ministry of Commerce, in charge of special economic zones, welcomes that project, said U Aung Soe.
That Special Economic Zone can be competitive with Thilawa Special Economic Zone. When the foreign investments have accessed in Thilawa Special Economic Zone, there can be probability to access another investments for SEZ project which is going to be implemented, said U Aung Soe.
There is a proposal to build Deep Sea Port and Airport in Konchankone Township and Kawhmu Township but there is no consultation about SEZ project, U Man Aung Ko Min said.
SEZ Central Committee was formed in August 2016 by President U Htin Kyaw. SEZ Central Committee comprises (i) Vice President U Henry Van Thio, chairman, (ii) Minister of Myanmar State Counsellor Office, vice chairman, (iii) Ten Union Ministers, (iv) Union Attorney-General and other related chief ministers.
The Minister of Commerce is the chairman of SEZ Central Woking Group which supports SEZ Central Committee. It comprises three Deputy Ministers, Deputy Attorney General and seven Secretaries of a government ministerial department as well as three Directors-General.
That SEZ Central Working Group have to implement the administration, security, management and development of the special economic zones in accordance with the Myanmar special economic zone law.
That group has to submit the proposal, place, area and boundary demarcate to the central government.
