Nagpur’s famous tea seller Dolly Chaiwala—who became a social media sensation overnight after serving tea to Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates in Hyderabad—has quickly become a sought-after figure for social gatherings and events.
His quirky antics, unique style of tea-making and charismatic presence have not only made him a popular choice for talk shows and public appearances but have also attracted millions of followers on social media. As of today, Dolly Chaiwala has 4.2 million followers on Instagram.
Dolly Chaiwala, a tea seller, whose distinctive style caught the attention of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, the world's seventh richest man, is now getting invited to many events, talk shows and other public platforms.
A food blogger, who wanted to invite him on his show, revealed how much Dolly Chaiwala demand to accept these invitations.
“Do you know how much this guy, Dolly Chaiwala, charges?
2,000 dinars. So ₹5 lakh. That’s roughly around 2,000 or 2,500 Kuwaiti Dinar. That’s not it. 2,500 KD, plus one more person will come with him, 4 or 5-star hotel booking. He literally told me that. He wasn’t talking to me, his manager was talking to me…. And this is for one day,” said the food blogger whose online alias is AK Food Vlog.
The video clocked over 18.7 million views within the first 24 hours.
On his visit to India in February this year, Bill Gates, whose net worth is estimated at $137 billion, was so fascinated by Dolly's style of making and serving tea that the tech mogul posted a video of his experience online.
The man serving the tea had no idea of the stakes.
“I was not aware at all. I thought that he was a guy from a foreign country so I should serve him tea,” he told ANI after returning to Nagpur.
However, the serendipitous encounter opened the doors to a whole new world of opportunities for the humble tea seller.
