Mayfair Townhouse Princess Diana’s Father Owned Selling for £11 Million

The former London townhouse of John Spencer, the 8th Earl Spencer, and Countess Raine Spencer—otherwise known as the father and stepmother of Princess Diana—has come to the market for £10.95 million (US$13.9 million).

Located in posh Mayfair, the home was a regular haunt for the late Princess of Wales.

John Spencer, who died in 1992, bought the five-bedroom Georgian-style house in 1990, as a gift for Raine—the daughter of romantic novelist Dame Barbara Cartland—who he had married in 1976.

While initially unpopular with her stepchildren, who reportedly dubbed her “Acid Raine,” the countess and Diana grew much closer following Diana’s divorce in 1996, and the princess became a frequent visitor to the house, spending hours in her late father’s first-floor library, according to listing agencies Wetherell and Chestertons.

Raine, who moved out of the home in 2000, “was famed for her immaculate dress sense, bouffant hair, pearls and clipped accent,” according to her 2016 obituary in the Independent.

Built in the early 1980s, the four-story house boasts a reception hall, a drawing room, a dining room, a kitchen and breakfast room, and that library where Diana spent so much time.

There are five bedrooms, including a staff suite with its own kitchen, and a full-floor primary suite on the top floor with a sitting room, a dressing room and a private roof terrace.
