A CASTLE has been creatively hand-built out of recycled items by an interior designer referred to as the Da Vinci of debris.
Sculptor Howard Solomon created a three-story high medieval-styled castle located in Ona, Florida - about 50 miles east of Sarasota - made with aluminum plates that were going to be thrown away by a local newspaper.

Solomon also used a few other recycled materials including discarded car parts, statues, metal scraps, signs, and more. The recycled project dubbed Soloman’s Castle is quite massive at 12,000 square feet.
It even includes a boat in a moat, accurately dubbed “Boat in the Moat,” which doubles as a restaurant that serves home-style meals.
Solomon’s Castle was built entirely by hand by Soloman.
He started the project in 1974 and it took him years to finish. Soloman's Castle is also an attraction that people can visit for a tour and a bite to eat at the restaurant.
The artist’s daughter Elaine Soloman explained in 2022 that her dad enjoyed making unconventional artwork, per local NBC affiliate WBBH in Fort Myers.
“Every man’s dream home is his castle, so Dad decided his castle would be his home,” Elaine said.
Elaine said her father has been called the “Rembrandt of reclamation, the Da Vinci of debris, and Wizard of odds and ends.”
People in the comments on the video spoke highly of Soloman and his creativity.
“This is wonderful!!! He was a simple genius!” one commenter said.
“I have been to Solomon's Castle. It was about 12 years ago. Mr. Solomon actually gave the tour that day. He was very funny,” another commenter said.
“The food in the restaurant was amazing. This is a must-visit place. You will not be disappointed.”
