A remote castle in Scotland is up for sale for only $37,000 – but there's a $15 million catch

A castle in Scotland is up for sale for just £30,000, or roughly $37,000 – but there's a catch.

The property, on a remote Scottish island in the Atlantic, will cost the buyer £12 million, or nearly $15 million, to renovate.

The Brough Lodge Trust, which was formed in the 1990s to preserve the 200-year-old building, has put together a plan to renovate the property and turn it into a luxury retreat with 24 double bedrooms.

They say they are looking for a "philanthropic entrepreneur to realize that vision."

The property is set across approximately 40 acres of land.

Brough Lodge is an A-listed historic building, meaning it is of "national or international architectural or historic importance."

It includes folly towers, walled gardens, and a courtyard.

It's located on the island of Fetlar in Shetland, Scotland.

There are more than 100 islands in Shetland, of which 16 are inhabited. Fetlar is the fourth-largest island and has only 69 people currently living there. It was built in 1825.

The home was inhabited until the 1970s and then laid empty for several years before undergoing repairs. It will be converted into a retreat.

The Brough Lodge Trust has developed plans to convert the property into being a "world-class retreat," where guests could do yoga and textile classes or guided wildlife tours.

An elevated dining room will have views of the land and sea.

Brough Lodge is in one of the wildest, most remote regions of Britain.
