It’s no real surprise that the beauty of Sussex has managed to lure in some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

It seems that once they get a taste of Sussex, they never want to leave. Kate Winslet, 45, has lived in West Wittering since 2015 and shows no sign of moving.
The Oscar-winning actress purchased the 8-bedroom stately home for £3.2million. She lives at the beachside mansion with her husband Edward Abel Smith, who previously used the name Ned Rocknroll, and her three children. Edward is the father of Bear, 7, while Mia, 20, and Joe, 17, are from her previous two marriages with Jim Threapleton and Sam Mendes.
The Grade II-listed house is now worth over £4million due to rising property prices and Kate adding a basement swimming pool, pool house and garage.
She also put forward plans to build a 550ft-long seawall to protect her 17th-century property in 2015 - which she subsequently withdrew following opposition from environmental groups.
She has grown quite an attachment to the sought after area of West Wittering, taking any opportunity to stay close to home. In 2018, she gave permission for her beachside estate to be a location for her movie Blackbird so she didn't have to stray far.
Kate is famously protective about her private life, which doesn’t stop those wanting a sneak peek into her life behind closed doors. She owns one of the most searched for celebrity homes in Britain, according to Pure Property Finance.
But with direct access to a beautiful sandy dune beach, unfortunately for homebuyers properties in the area rarely come onto the open market. And when they do, they often come with a hefty six-figure price tag.
Of all the places across the world that Kate can afford to live, she is happiest surrounded by her family in rural Sussex. It appears she has decided to settle in Sussex for good, having put her 3000-square foot apartment in the US on the market last year.
She has bid farewell to her penthouse in the centre of New York City, swapping it for a country retreat commanding panoramic views of the South Downs and the sea.
And she’s not the only one with a long-standing devotion to arguably one of the most beautiful areas of the Sussex coastline. Kate’s home isn’t far from Redlands, the Elizabethan mansion that has been home to Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards since the 1960s.
