The story of a pink Tesla Model Y caught under the rubble in China made international news over the weekend. Still, the car has a far more unusual story, as it appears its owner is one of the most unlucky people on Earth. Tesla EVs have always been among the safest on the road, widely acclaimed for their outstanding safety. The glass roof, especially, has been touted as being able to withstand four times the car's weight, or 19,188 pounds (8,700 kg) in the case of the Tesla Model Y, according to the IIHS. This is puzzling, considering that most people believe glass is more fragile than steel. Indeed, the glass roof does break, but it can still withstand more weight than most vehicles whose...

Pictured above is the limousine in which President John F Kennedy was fatally shot during a presidential visit to Dallas, Texas. Unusually, the car was kept in service for several years after President Kennedy’s death, but even more unusually, once it was retired to the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan, visitors reported all kinds of spooky happenings. Many report the feeling of a supernatural presence around the car, and there have been many rumours about a man in grey standing around the vehicle. Sceptics have labelled the grey man as a simple shadow or trick of the light – but the sightings of him increase around November. Kennedy was shot on November...

Essex Police’s stolen vehicle intelligence unit (SVIU) has revealed that vehicles and parts worth more than £16 million ($20m) have been recovered in 2023. Among that haul sits a couple of expensive purchases from performers in the English top-flight. The cars in question were not stolen in Essex, but have been discovered in shipping containers that were due to be transported to the Middle East from London Gateway Port in Thurrock. The players involved have not been named, but they are said to be established...

In Luo Wenyou’s cavernous, hangar-like exhibition building in Beijing’s northern Huairou district, the scents of history and engine oil are dovetailed. Luo owns around 200 vehicles, ranging from a jet black stretch limo made for Mao Zedong to an enormous red fire truck. Last month, his obsession with vintage cars – an esoteric interest in China – was featured in a mini documentary, aptly named “Driven.” Luo’s collection began in 1979, when he first became what was a rarity in China at the time: a private car owner. He bought a blue Polish Warszawa car for 5,000 Yuan ($725). (Production for Warszawas began in the 1950s). “I changed my white...

Ernest Hemingway and pre-Castro Cuba go hand-in-hand: Just ask anyone who ever had to read “Old Man and the Sea.” It's fitting that the author left his last automobile, a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker convertible, on the island before his suicide in 1961. Auto restoration is pretty low on the list of day-to-day priorities in post-revolution Cuba. Long presumed lost, the Chrysler, much-decayed, was found in 2011. The car is now the subject of “Cuban Soul,” an upcoming documentary film about the New Yorker's history and ongoing restoration. Cuba isn't exactly wealthy these days -- and the most ready source of vintage spares, the United States, has been...

Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) will suspend operations at all of its assembly plants in Japan from Tuesday afternoon due to a malfunction with its production system, it said, likely bringing domestic output to a standstill for the world's top automaker. Toyota was looking into the cause of the problem, a spokesperson said, adding it was "likely not due to a cyberattack". The malfunction has meant it has not been able to order components, the spokesperson added. Toyota suspended operations at 12 of its plants from Tuesday morning, with two remaining online. All 14 will be suspended from the second shift on Tuesday, the spokesperson said, adding the amount of lost...
