Ministry of Electricity and Energy signed a contract with the tender winner Hitachi Soe Electric and Machinery Co., Ltd to buy transformers for providing the power grid to villages, was held at the meeting hall of Ministry of Electricity and Energy, Naypyitaw on January 21. The project is being implemented with the loan of World Bank, according to reports. The first phase of the National Electricity Project is to provide 5,080 villages within two miles of the power grid and to 4,700 villages within five miles in the second phase.
At the completion of the first phase, 626,757 households in 5,080 villages will get electricity and 539,674 households in the 4,700 villages will also get electricity in the completion of the second phase. When the two projects have been completed in 9780 villages, about 5.5 million people in the 116,6431 households will have access to electricity and will increase their electricity usage from the national grid to 10.72 percent.
