The proposal to construct cyclone resistant shelter each in Thonekhwa, Dagon Seikkan and Kunchankone townships will be submitted, Minister of Social Affairs U Naing Ngan Lin said at the 11th regular meeting on the third of Yangon Region Hluttaw.
At the meeting, Minister of Social Affairs U Naing Ngan Lin responded the question raised by the Tamadaw ( military) MP Major Ye Htut. The question was whether there was a plan to construct a cyclone-proof shelter in Thaungkhone village, Kunchankone township.
There are four cyclone resistant shelters in Kunchankone township and Thaungkhone village is at the mouth of the river where it meets the sea and therefore a cyclone-proof shelter should be constructed.
Yangon Project Bank’s projects for developing the region include plans to construct a cyclone-proof each in Thonekhwa, Dagon Seikkan And Kunchankone Townships.
The plan has been submitted to the National Disaster Management Committee headed by the Vice President to be involved in 2020-21 fiscal year. After receiving instructions from it, the cyclone-proof shelter will be constructed, explained U Naing Ngan Lin, Minister of Social Affairs.
A total of 232 cyclone-proof shelters have been constructed as from 2009. The Ministry of Education, the village administrators and the social organizations are maintaining them in order to long-term strengthen the cyclone-proof shelters.
