A New City To Be Implemented To Replace Buildings Within Mrauk U Cultural Site
A new city’s construction is to be started to place the buildings within Mrauk U’s cultural site which will be submitted to UNESCO as a World Heritage area, said a responsible official of the Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development, Mrauk U.
The 600 acres of project land are being graded by mechanisms to place the transferred buildings, he added.
“We explain about the local culture buildings to the local people in order to value the cultural heritage. The new city must be essentially formed. At present, we are undertaking graded processes,” he said.
The 600 acres of land near Mawphikan village and Oatkhawkan village in the north part of Mrauk U township are temporarily set as the project area. It is not allowing to construct high-rise buildings on 100 acres of land closed to the cultural site but allows to construct on the remaining 500 acres of land, according to the Mrauk U Provincial Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development.
The specified date to transfer the buildings could be confirmed when the Department of General Administration released the final order, said U Htun Thar Sein, MP for Mrauk U township.
“Transferring process will be undertaken with the Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development and the Department of General Administration, he said.
The data collections of pagodas and artworks in Mrauk U is being made and written the proposal for designation Mrauk U as Workd Heritage Zone to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Mrauk U cultural heritage site is 50 kilometers wide and within the site, there are government buildings, monastery and houses. Therefore, the government is negotiating with the local people to transfer those buildings from the cultural heritage site not to be deterrent to the final proposal to UNESCO, said MPs for Rakhine State.
