To Upgrade Yangon Drainage System and Public Infrastructures With the World Bank’s Loan

The drainage system and public infrastructures will be upgrade with the loan US$ 117 million, according to the sources.

The loan US$ 117 million is from World Bank and cash aid $ 1 million from Southeast Asia Disaster Risk Insurance Facility (SEADRIF).

U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region addressed at the workshop on Myanmar Southeast Asia Disaster Risk Management Project held in Yangon. He said Yangon can be affected by the natural disasters, earthquake and flooding.

The Pyihtaungsu Hluttaw’s approval must be sought because the project would be implemented by only the government after taking the foreign loans.

“The workshop will be bringing benefits for the project and opportunities for departmental heads. Opportunities can get through the workshop concerning durability of basic infrastructures, public selected markets and hospitals. Nearly half a million people are expected to benefit from the improved drainage systems and the structural performance of selected public facilities in Yangon,” said U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region.
