Pink granite rock formations and sandy beaches lure travelers to Trégastel, a commune in the Côtes-d’Armor division of Brittany in northwestern France.
And, if you’re looking to plant some roots in the area, a 19th-century castle on a private island with shimmering turquoise-blue water lapping its rocky shores just hit the market for $9.78 million.
Peter Bos of Bretagne Sud Sotheby’s International Realty holds the one-of-a-kind listing that evokes the spirit of la belle vie.
Known as Château de Costaérès, the neo-Gothic style castle sits near the fishing village of Ploumanac’h and faces the Pink Granite Coast.
It was built by Lithuanian-Polish mathematician, engineer, and inventor Bruno Abdank-Abakanowicz in 1895 and originally used as a meeting and exchange place where Polish artists meet, the listing notes.
One of those creatives was Henryk Sienkiewicz, a Nobel Prize-winning novelist revered for his historical releases.
His visits to the estate served as inspiration for his bestseller, Quo Vadis.

The private island covers a hectare of land with two sandy beaches accessible along its north and south points.
Large boulders flank the east and west rims , and as you move inland, verdant settings composed of 200 species of trees, shrubs, and flowers disperse to slowly reveal the castle’s stone façade in the heart of the island.
The four-story home with turrets was meticulously renovated in 1980 to preserve original elements and spaces such as the knights’ and banquet rooms that reflect its journey through time.
