This 100-acre ranch at the edge of Wyoming’s western border with Idaho offers a regulation turf airstrip and a 3,600-square-foot hangar for airplanes and other toys.
“It’s at the northern end of Star Valley,” said listing agent Shea DeMello of Engel & Völkers Star Valley. “The valley is 50 miles long, and the Salt River runs the length of it.” The property, which is called the Freedom Air Ranch, has access to the Salt, which is known for its great fishing, she said. The property features 360-degree mountain views, with open vistas of Black Mountain and the Salt River Range.
The runway, which is county and Federal Aviation Authority approved, features 2,000 feet of groomed turf and an additional 600-foot road extension, according to the listing.
The owner, a retired American Airlines pilot who lives there full time, built the ranch in 2007, Ms. DeMello said. He has two planes that he stores in the hangar.
She described the 2,192-square-foot, two-bedroom living quarters as a “hangar home.”
“It has a small living area with another larger area where your plane can be housed,” she explained.
The house features hickory floors, a metal roof, cathedral ceilings, oversized windows, a custom kitchen with granite counters and alder cabinets, and a rustic barn wood exterior. It also has a 45-foot-tall viewing tower above the roof, which is accessed from a hidden door in the kitchen, Ms. DeMello said. “They have a little game area up there and a deck.”
The hangar features a decorative epoxy floor, a large insulated door, a custom wall covering of the Teton Range and a sitting area.
