After all, supply across the market is low and as people race to secure a home those who hesitate can be left disappointed. But this often comes with the risk of being left with buyers or renters’ remorse. Property expert Jonathan Rolande, the founder of House Buy Fast, said: “It’s understandable that those looking for somewhere to live might jump at the first opportunity that comes along. After all, like anything, when supply is low the standards you are willing to accept can drop. “But although there is no better feeling than getting the keys to a new house, it can quickly become a nightmare if that property is home to hidden problems. “You might...

Britain’s richest family spent more money on their pet dog than they did on one of their servants, a Swiss court has heard. Prosecutors have called for the billionaire Hinduja family to face jail time over allegations of trafficking and exploitation of staff at their Lake Geneva villa. Speaking at a hearing at Geneva’s criminal court on Monday, prosecutor Yves Bertossa said: “They spent more for one dog than one of their servants.” Mr Bertossa claimed that one woman was paid as little as seven Swiss francs (£6.19) to work for up to 18 hours a day, seven days a week, Bloomberg reported. Meanwhile, he cited a budget...

This couple sold their house for $87 million and then downsized — to a $17.25 million penthouse. Retired banker Javier Holtz and his spouse, Andria, sold their Indian Creek, Florida, home to Amazon titan Jeff Bezos, one of the world’s richest people. Then they went on a search for something smaller. In this case, that meant buying a $15.75 million penthouse with its own pool and throwing in an additional $1.5 million or so for the furniture. The sale was first reported by the Real Deal. (Javier and Andria Holtz.Javier Holtz/ Facebook) (The penthouse comes with a 4,000-square-foot terrace. A man has been left fuming after his neighbour's son kept kicking his football against the walls of his home, so he decided to take action. The man, in his 30s and wishing to remain anonymous, recently took to Reddit to vent his frustrations. He detailed how he resides on the third floor of a flat complex, and the family living below him has a young son who "loves to kick his football around all day". The furious man alleges that it "shakes my entire flat" as the boy reportedly bounces his ball against the building's side and his home's walls. "This makes it impossible for me to sleep," the neighbour lamented. He elaborated: "He loves to kick his football around ALL DAY. He kicks...

"D-Day tomorrow. Everybody quite excited. We land at Arromanches, clear three villages and Bayeux." Discovered in a dusty upstairs room of a pub, the matter-of-fact entry for 5 June 1944 written in block capitals in a small, pocket-sized diary by an unknown serviceman feels understated. But for Phil Smith, the landlord of the Bells of Peover pub in the tiny Cheshire village of Lower Peover, it never fails to excite."Every time I look at it, I get goose bumps all over my skin," the 44-year-old says. The framed diary, open on the page for 5 and 6 June, has pride of place in the dining room. Next to it hangs a map of Normandy's beaches carved into sectors on which the British, Commonwealth...

Singapore’s cooling property market suffered a blow after a housing site put up for sale by the government failed to attract any interest from developers for the first time in more than two decades. The lack of bids is a setback for efforts tackling high rents as the government pushes out a new kind of long-term serviced apartment. The Upper Thomson Road site was one of two earmarked for construction of some apartments requiring a minimum three-month stay, up from the current seven-day requirement. The pilot was part of efforts by authorities to tackle a major surge in residential rents, which remain near multi-year highs, despite an easing in recent quarters. Developers have...

She purchased the hefty '$58million' property in Beverly Hills two years ago with her husband Rich Paul, which was previously owned by Sylvester Stallone. And Adele still hasn't moved into her 'forever home' despite spending millions more renovating the mansion. The singer has extended the 18,587 square-foot home, which already had eight bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, skywards in order to build a garage to fit five luxury cars. According to The Sun, Adele's team said they are also fitting a 'cool roof' on the property to comply with 'strict specifications of properties in a 'very high' Fire Hazard Severity Zone. A source said: 'When Adele bought the house she didn’t intend to change...

When Janette Campbell retired from teaching at the age of 62, the one thing not etched into her retirement roadmap was “return to work.” Like other new retirees heading into their golden years, Campbell dreamt of “taking care of [her] grandchildren” and “traveling the world” — but life didn’t work out that way for the senior Chicago resident. Living on a fixed retirement income, Campbell soon found she couldn’t keep up with her bills — especially her monthly mortgage payment. Her only option was to get a part-time gig to help her make ends meet. Now aged 74, Campbell is working part-time for United HomeCare, a non-profit home...
