17th May 2023 – (Vancouver) Sony Pictures Entertainment has announced an open casting call for a male actor to co-star alongside Jackie Chan in an upcoming martial arts movie.
The lead character, named Li Fong, will be played by an actor who is able to portray a smart, scrappy, and skilled fighter. The studio has specified that only candidates based in Canada or Asia will be considered.
The movie will be directed by Jonathan Entwhistle, the creator and director of hit Netflix shows “The End of the F***ing World” and “I Am Not Okay With This,” and produced by Karen Rosenfelt, who has worked on blockbuster franchises such as “Twilight” and “Percy Jackson.”
The casting director, PoPing AuYeung, has cast for several high-profile films, including “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” and “The Meg.”
The ideal candidate should be a male above the age of 18 by August 15, 2023, and must be available to train full-time from July 2023, with additional time required for filming from September to December 2023 in Canada.
Candidates should possess martial arts skills, and conversational to fluent Mandarin would be a plus. The successful applicant will need to be able to portray a Chinese 17-year-old who speaks fluent American English.
Interested parties can submit their personal details, a demo reel of their movement skills, and an introduction video demonstrating their bilingualism and suitability for the role. The application window closes on 26th May, 2023.
