Brick kiln owners have complained about falling prices due to the rise in imports from neighbouring countries amid the boom in the construction sector. Preap Koy, the owner of a brick kiln in Kandal province, told The Post on Monday that 10,000 bricks were now worth $270 – down from $380 last year. He said he sold between 500,000 and 600,000 bricks annually. “The price of bricks is falling because imports from Vietnam are impacting our brick market so we can’t sell well and gradually lose out. “We produce bricks every day just to create jobs for our workers. We call on stakeholders to help explore more opportunities for local brick makers and reduce imports,...

According to official flash calculations, private property prices in Singapore dropped 2.5 percent in 2019 in comparison to the 7.9 percent increase back in 2018, reported Channel News Asia. The private residential property index rose by 0.3 percent to 153.3 points in the fourth quarter of the year, after two consecutive quarters of increase. Head of research for Singapore at Colliers International Tricia Song said: “The slowing pace of price increase indicates a stabilised environment, reducing any risk of the government imposing more cooling measures at this stage.” “With home prices highly correlated to household income and the economy, we expect private residential...

Fitch Ratings see Singapore private residential prices growing by around a "modest" 2 per cent in both 2020 and 2021, about the same as this year and down from nearly 8 per cent in 2018. "Private home prices declined by 0.7 per cent from the third quarter of 2018 and the first quarter of 2019 after the July 2018 property cooling measures and mortgage rate increases, which both dampened market sentiment. Prices rebounded slightly in the second quarter of 2019, and Fitch Ratings projects minor growth for the rest of this year." Fitch Ratings said in its Global Housing and Mortgage Outlook 2020 report out on Wednesday (Dec 18). But it added that: "If the government views home prices as...

Good news for sellers (and developers). The increase in residential property prices, which include condo prices, is expected to last until Q3 2020, a new Savills Research report revealed. Based on URA data, private home prices rose a second consecutive quarter in Q3 2019 by 1.3%, after 2.0% in Q2. This increase is mostly driven by newly launched projects, which buyers have been lately observed to gravitate towards at the expense of resale property according to the latest PropertyGuru quarterly report. However, the Savills report also noted certain factors that may stunt the upward momentum of prices. “Although studies have shown that the up-leg of our price cycle tends to last 8.7...

The real estate market in Sydney and Melbourne has started to bounce back, after gaining AUD3,000 (USD2,000) and AUD2,500 weekly increase respectively since September, news.com.au reported, citing the latest Business Outlook from Deloitte Access Economics. Despite home prices dropping to AUD2,000 a week in both cities from late 2018 to early 2019, Deloitte predicted that Australia’s housing market prices will keep increasing, as auction clearance rates and housing-related lending begin to experience boom time. The report said that the rebound in housing prices will eventually boost housing and retail construction, but it could also disrupt the affordability of housing down the line,...

The rising rates of home properties in mainland China and Hong Kong have encouraged local investors to explore other options, and with Vietnam’s relatively low prices, South China Morning Post reports that it has become the latest property hotspot in Asia. A data released by CBRE Vietnam revealed that 25 percent of the total transactions by foreign investors in South East Asia were credited to buyers from mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Carrie Law, chief executive of Juwai.com, said, “Buyers with limited assets overseas are able to purchase properties in a rapidly growing market and diversify their investments.” Law further clarifies that investors can get a home in...

Private home prices in Singapore rose for the second consecutive quarter in the third quarter of 2019, despite the escalation of US-China trade tension and the deterioration of global macroeconomic health. The private residential property index rose 0.9 percent in Q3 2019, compared to the 1.5 percent increase in the previous quarter, showed the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s (URA) flash estimate for Q3 2019. This comes as non-landed home prices grew 1.7 percent while landed prices dropped 2.2 percent. “The second consecutive quarterly increase in sales and prices suggest that more buyers previously on the sidelines are coming back to the market.” said Lee Nai...
