Western Australia may soon be home to the world’s tallest wooden building, after authorities in Perth green-lit plans for a 191.2-meter-tall (627-foot) “hybrid” tower constructed using mass timber. On Thursday, Perth’s Metro Inner-South Joint Development Assessment Panel (JDAP) approved Grange Development’s proposal for the skyscraper, currently dubbed the C6 building, which would stand nearly twice as high as the current record holder. The developers say 42% of the proposed tower will be constructed from timber, with the columns and core made of reinforced concrete. If completed, the high-rise will surpass the world’s tallest timber-concrete hybrid...

DISCOVERING mould in your home should set alarm bells ringing. Not only is it unsightly, but it can also cause a host of health conditions, such as allergies and asthma. (Esther Shaw tested a snake plant that's said to prevent mould in your home) If you’ve started to see green or black patches appearing on your walls or ceilings, and, perhaps, noticed a bit of a musty smell, these could be indications that it’s lurking in your property. Since spotting the tell-tale signs of mould in our bathroom in our south-west London house a few months ago, I’ve been on a mission to eradicate this toxic fuzz. We’ve only got a very small area of this nasty...

Kevin Bacon, who starred in sci-fi films such as “Flatliners,” destroyed a haunted house on his northwestern Connecticut farm when the previous owner feared he might become “possessed” by an otherworldly entity. “One of the pieces that we bought had an old house in it and [the owner] didn’t want me to own the house. It was an abandoned house that he had grown up in,” Bacon said on Rob Lowe’s “Literally” podcast last month. Bacon said he bought the “turn of the century” rural farm in 1983 to buy a horse with an ex-girlfriend. He bought up plots around his property every few years to keep the area private. The...

An abandoned Cambridgeshire mansion that dates back to 1905 is up for grabs with a guide price of £100,000 to £125,000. The Edwardian building, in the village of Longstanton, which is six miles north-west of Cambridge, is being sold at auction, where properties often sell for more than the initial guide price. While it may seem like a bargain, the buyer will need incredibly deep pockets and potentially years of patience to transform the house into a comfortable family home. The brick building sits in more than an acre of land, with several outbuildings, and is completely derelict. (This abandoned mansion is in the Cambridgeshire village of Longstanton and dates...

Buying property is likely to be the single most expensive thing most people will ever purchase. So, for most, forking out a hefty sum would need to be something well-worth it. But it seems one recent buyer’s priorities may differ slightly from the conventional. A run-down gun tower located on the Thames in Kent has been snapped up by an American buyer. But its doer-upper state isn’t the only catch. The Thames tower can only be accessed at low tide via causeway twice a day – or by boat the rest of the time. (It went for over asking price (Picture: Savills / SWNS) Nevertheless, this wasn’t enough to put the buyer off, who paid...
