Legislation has been introduced in Congress authorizing President Donald Trump to impose sanctions on China if Beijing fails to cooperate and provide a full accounting of the events leading up to the COVID-19 outbreak, nine Senators said in a statement. "Without certification, the president would be authorized to impose a range of sanctions such as asset freezes, travel bans, visa revocations, restricting United States financial institutions from making loans or underwriting to Chinese businesses and prohibiting Chinese firms from being listed on American stock exchanges", Senators Lindsey Graham, Thom Tillis, Cindy Hyde-Smith, Mike Braun, Rick Scott, Steve Daines, Todd Young, Jim Inhofe,...

A top infectious disease expert has predicted that coronavirus will continue to spread until some two thirds of the world's population has been infected. Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, issued the dire prediction in an interview with USA Today on Monday. 'We all have to confront the fact there's not a magic bullet, short of a vaccine, that's going to make this go away,' he said. 'We're going to be living with it. And we're not having that discussion at all.' Osterholm said that without a vaccine, which is likely more than a year away, the virus will continue to spread until it is halted by...

Germany has relaxed more coronavirus lockdown measures despite the country's rate of infection rising to potentially dangerous levels. Pubs, gyms and cafes were allowed to open in the most populous state of North-Rhine Westphalia starting today, while other states are allowing people to socialise with those outside of their household and for large shops to reopen. The moves come despite the country's 'R' figure - or rate of infection - rising for the second day in a row to 1.13, the Robert Koch Institute said. Anything over 1 means the number of new daily infections will increase. The increase was revealed as outbreaks of coronavirus were uncovered at three slaughterhouses across...

A Chinese doctor whose skin suddenly turned dark after he fell critically ill with coronavirus is seeing his colour returning to normal gradually. Dr Yi Fan, who caught the virus through work in January, was reportedly discharged by a hospital in Wuhan last week after beating the killer infection. A spokesperson said Dr Yi's abnormal skin tone was caused by an antibiotic he had received during the treatment. Dr Yi's colleague Dr Hu Weifeng, whose skin also turned dark, was still hospitalised, according to the spokesperson. Dr Yi and Dr Hu, both 42, caught the novel coronavirus while treating patients at the Wuhan Central Hospital nearly four months ago. Footage released by Beijing TV...

The night Miguel Moran died from complications of the coronavirus, his 23-year-old son and four other family members put on their face masks and rushed to a suburban New York hospital to be at his bedside. One by one, they donned a hospital-issued plastic gown, a head covering and gloves. They spent a few minutes each saying an emotional farewell to the lifeless body of the 56-year-old immigrant from El Salvador, a Pentecostal church goer who washed trucks to provide for his family. His only son, Daniel Moran, said a bedside prayer at St. Joseph Hospital on Long Island. He squeezed his dead father's hand. "One day we'll join you in heaven," he cried. Sixteen days later, father and son...
