Coming into effect on July 1, people could be paid over €80,000 (which is about £68,700) to up sticks, and live in seclusion. So far, 23 islands are included, but they aren’t connected to the mainland via bridges or low tides. A London council banned a local landlord from renting out properties to tenants for five years after he was found guilty of multiple housing offenses, including making up to 40 people live in a four-bedroom property. Brent Council released a statement saying that "slum" landlord Jaydipkumar Rameshchandra Valand made £360,000, or about $457,000, from the tenants at the property in Wembley, in northwest London.   The council said that officers found one of the tenants "living in a lean-to shack made out of pallets and tarpaulin with no lighting or heating."
