The property encompasses 65,000 acres in the Texas Panhandle.
In 2017, Pickens listed his Mesa Vista Ranch for $250 million. Here's a look at the one-of-a-kind, 65,000-acre property in the Texas Panhandle. Pickens purchased the first part of the property 46 years ago.
He started with a paltry 2,900 acres.
Now it covers more than 100 square miles, or about 65,000 acres.
"Selling the ranch is the prudent thing for an 89-year-old man to do," Pickens said in a statement.
"It’s time to get my life and my affairs in order," he wrote on LinkedIn. Pickens, who has already given more than $1 billion to charity, explained that "much of the proceeds from the sale of the Mesa Vista will be directed to The T. Boone Pickens Foundation to fund a variety of philanthropic charitable commitments."
The largest structure on the ranch is "The Lodge," which clocks in at 33,000 square feet.
Sam Middleton of Chas. S. Middleton and Son and Monte Lyons of Hall and Hall have the listing.
The "Lake House," finished in 2008, has 12,000 square feet of indoor living space and nearly 4,000 square feet of patios. Mesa Vista has its own airport.
There's a 25,000-square-foot hangar and a 6,000-foot runway.
The oil tycoon married his fifth wife at the property's chapel in 2014.
There are nearly 20 man-made lakes.
Pickens says it has "the world’s best quail hunting."
You don't need to leave the ranch to practice your golf swing, because it comes with two fairways and greens.
"Slowly but inevitably, my fading vision and limited hearing have forced me to give up things I’ve loved and excelled at—golf and hunting, in particular," Pickens says. "Although the beauty of Mesa Vista remains intact, the ranch roads I have driven thousands of times are now blurred. It’s time to embrace and accept that my life has changed."
There are about 12 miles of water throughout the 65,000 acres.
Mesa Vista Ranch is one of the most expensive properties for sale anywhere in the world.
