Movie mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg’s 14,100-square-foot ski chalet in Park City, Utah, has sold for $11.6 million—the highest priced sale in the state in 2018, according to Engel & Völkers and listing records.
"This home was one of a kind," said listing agent Paul Benson of Engel & Völkers Park City. "Built by a dream team of world-class architects and designers, it has true, authentic ski-home charm.
It’s in one of the finest communities in Utah on two of the finest ski lots. It’s irreplaceable."
Located in the private Bald Eagle Club in the Deer Valley ski resort, the three-level log and stone house, which Mr. Katzenberg christened The Family Trap, was designed as a wintertime retreat, where family and friends gathered for luxurious snowbound experiences, according to a previous Mansion Global story.
The 1.57-acre estate, which is nestled in the mountains, covers two lots and has two wings that give it the feel of two separate residences sold last month.
According to records in the assessor’s office in Summit County, Utah, the new owner is an LLC named after the address of the property.
The home has been on and off the market since 2010, according to Mr. Benson.
It was last listed for $13.5 million on Nov. 20. Mr. Katzenberg, 68, the former head of Disney Animation, co-founder of the DreamWorks film studio and producer of the films "Shrek," "Madagascar" and "Over the Hedge," built the house in 1992.
During his ownership, the property played host to a variety of celebrities, notably former President Bill Clinton, Cameron Diaz,Tom Cruise and Michael Jackson, according to Engel & Völkers.
It was designed by Park City-based architect Rick Otto and New York-based architect Charles Gwathmey, whose most high-profile project was the 1992 renovation of the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
The Americana-style interiors, which has wooden walls, floors and ceilings as well as fabrics, carpets and plaids that are in the traditional patterns and colors of Utah’s indigenous tribes, are by Naomi Leff, the designer of Ralph Lauren’s Double RL Ranch in Colorado.
