A town in southern England has grown so much in the last 60 years that it’s become the fastest-moving property market outside the north-west.
Before World War II, Basingstoke was a small market town – but expanded substantially in the 1960s to accommodate Londoners who were being relocated because of housing shortages.
It has grown so much since then that it’s now Hampshire’s largest town and continues to attract a steady stream of people who have quit the capital but still want easy access to it.
An increase in passenger numbers recently resulted in more direct trains to and from London’s Waterloo station.
According to Zoopla, properties here typically took 24 days to sell last year.
Although much of Basingstoke is new, the town has a lively, historic heart and is surrounded by scenic countryside and rural villages.
Matt Morrison is a sales consultant and housebuilder for Bovis Homes moved to the area last May with his fiancee Kayleigh, after they bought a a two-bedroom coach house off-plan.
