Seller- Steve Buchanan Buyer- Sergey Brin Location- Point Dume, Malibu, Calif. Price- $35 million Year-1958 Specs- 6,107 square feet, 6 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms Lot Size- 0.86 acres
Last year, Nebraska-based businessman Steve Buchanan put his stunning Malibu house on the market. Despite its $34.5 million asking price, the blufftop Point Dume property quickly sold to an unnamed technology executive, though it wasn’t clear until now that the buyer was Sergey Brin, the Google co-founder and one of the world’s richest men. But it’s not particularly surprising that Brin would be in the mood to buy an expensive Malibu home. Though long based in Silicon Valley, the mogul, 49, has been spending a significant amount of time in Southern California since 2020, when he and second wife Nicole Shanahan bought a house elsewhere on Point Dume.
Brin, who has also frequently been spotted at the trendy Nobu Malibu restaurant in recent months, split from Shanahan in early 2022. That was right around the time she was widely reported to have had an affair with Elon Musk, and shortly before Brin quietly acquired this second Point Dume home, which has seemingly become his new bachelor pad.
Beyond his obvious fondness for Point Dume, Brin also has a fondness for homes formerly owned by rockstars. His first Malibu home was owned by Pink from 2010-2016, while his new place was famously owned by Pat Benatar from 1997-2003.
Originally built in 1953, the estate is set atop a high cliff with extraordinary ocean and coastline views. Gated and ringed by an elaborate security system, the place remains unassuming from the street, but is actually quite large — there are six bedrooms and six baths in more than 6,000 square feet of living space. Amenities include two separate master suites, a movie theater, a slick gourmet kitchen and multiple doors opening to various patios. Out back, an infinity pool, wooden sundeck, fire-pit lounge and BBQ center overlook the ocean, which sparkles out to Catalina Island.
According to Forbes, the Russian-born tech whiz is worth roughly $100 billion, making him the world’s 10th richest man.
