Over 800 students, staff now told to quarantine in Georgia school district

Just one week after schools reopened in a northern Georgia school district, more than 800 of its students and staff have been told to quarantine. Last week, the Cherokee County School District, about 44 miles north of Atlanta, told 20 people to quarantine when one 2nd-grader tested positive for the virus after the first day of school. That number grew fast, and as of Monday night, the school has ordered 826 students to quarantine due to possible exposure, according to a list the district created. The 42,000-student district lists about 40 cases in 19 elementary, middle and high schools, but it is unclear if all of those represent positive coronavirus tests or if some are of people who...

Massive Road Bridge Built Around Tiny House of Very Stubborn Owner

A newly opened highway in China’s Guangdong province has been making news headlines for a very peculiar reason: it’s built around the tiny home who refused to move. China is well-known for its “nail houses”, properties of homeowners who reject compensation from a developer for their demolition, but while most such examples are encountered within new residential complexes, the one we’re featuring today stands in the middle of a highway bridge. Footage released by Chinese media shows the property tightly squeezed between the lanes of the newly opened Haizhuyong Bridge, in the city of Guangzhou. It is located in a pit in the middle of the four-lane road bridge...

The Famously Narrow ‘Pie House’ of Deerfield

A suburban Chicago home has become known locally as the “Pie House” because of its resemblance to a wedge-shaped slice of pie. Built in 2003, on an oblong plot of land in Deerfield, Illinois, 1,122 square feet of the Pie House has become somewhat of a local tourist attraction, with people stopping by regularly just to take pictures of the unusually narrow building. Famous for its unique shape, the Pie House was born out of necessity, as developer Greg Weissman of Advantage Properties tried to make the best of an oblong piece of land only 0.09 acres in size, which is unusually small for the suburbs. Despite one of the walls being only 3-feet-wide, the Pie House turned out...

World's tallest prefab skyscrapers will rise in Singapore -- but they're being built in Malaysia

Apair of skyscrapers are set to become the tallest prefabricated buildings in the world. And while the two 192-meter-tall (630 feet) towers will rise in densely populated Singapore, large parts of the structures are being built over the border in Malaysia. The residential project, named Avenue South Residences, will see 988 apartments formed from almost 3,000 vertically stacked "modules." The firm behind the project, ADDP Architects, says the building method, known as Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC), is less labor-intensive and can help reduce waste and noise pollution. The individual modules are factory-made in Senai, Malaysia, where a series of six-sided boxes...

I’m A Celeb’s new camp is spooky castle in Wales haunted by floating woman in white

I’M A CELEB stars may be extra keen to Get Out of Here this year — as their camp is a haunted castle. Show chiefs have paid a king’s ransom to secure the sprawling and spooky-looking 200-year-old Gwrych Castle folly in North Wales. The eerie ruins are said to be prowled by the spectre of previous owner, the Countess of Dundonald. The floating woman in white is said to be angry that her husband stripped the castle of valuables. A chilling photo taken there ten years ago shows a pale, shadowy young woman on the first floor — in what used to be a magnificent banquet hall. However, the floorboards beneath the window had rotted away, making it impossible to stand there....

Loftus Hall, Ireland’s Most Haunted Mansion, Just Went On The Market

Built in 1170, Loftus Hall is an architectural site to behold. The beautiful Georgian mansion in Fethard on Sea in Ireland’s County Wexford is now on sale for $2.87 million. Prospective buyers should take more than the 22 bedrooms into account, however — namely the local legend that it was once inhabited by the devil. According to The Smithsonian, it’s said that an 18th century card game at the historic property culminated in one of the players revealing his cloven hooves to the owner’s daughter. As the story goes, she was traumatized for the rest of her life — and her spirit has wandered the halls ever since. Loftus Hall’s most recent owners have...

Demand for warehouses in Singapore stockpiled in the second quarter of 2020

The industrial property prices and rents in Singapore respectively dropped at a swift pace of 1.1 and 0.7 percent quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter of 2020, reported JLL Singapore, citing the 2Q20 industrial property market data published by government agency JTC. In the report, the agency mentioned that the said figures are regarded as the biggest drop in prices and rents since 2017. These overall downturns occurred in spite of the 0.2 percentage quarter-on-quarter increase in the city-state’s industrial property occupancy rate to 89.4 percent in the second quarter of the year. The slight boost in occupancy rate is due to the fact that there weren’t a lot of completed...

The property, which is in the ranch-rich land of San Luis Obispo County, was listed Monday by Lance Doré of California Outdoor Properties and Matt and Dylan Marschall of CBRE Capital Markets.
