Thanlyin Township

Thanlyin is a major port city of Myanmar, located across Bago River from the city of Yangon. It’s located 3 miles away from river mounth in which Yangon river, Bago river and Pazundaung creek are converged.

Thanlyin Township comprises 17 quarters and 28 village tracts. It is home to the largest port in the country, Thilawa port.

Since the 1990s, the city has undergone major changes. Thanlyin was finally connected to Yangon by road in 1993 when the Thanlyin Bridge was built as China – Myanmar friendship . Area is 350.49 square km. It ha 4 High schools. The city is home to a national university in Myanmar Maritime University, and local universities in the University of East Yangon and Technological University Thanlyin, Co-operative University of Thanlyin.  Thilawa port, Thanlyin oil-refinery, Thanlyin main market are well- known of township. Famous Thalyin Yaele pagoda, Kyaik-khauk Sandawshin pagoda are also located in this Township. Annual celebrated Buddha festival is famous and crowded festivals of township. Eventually, although the township is located  in the bank river of Yangon, become developing year and year. Township also has many unused yards.
