Thaketa Township

Thaketa township was one of the satellite township established in 1959. The township comprises 19 wards, and shares borders with Thingangyun Township in the north and west, the Bago River in the east, and Dawbon Township in the south. The township has 46 primary schools, eight middle schools and four high schools.

The Pazundaung Creek flows through the township. It is nearest to the city's main sporting venues, the Thuwunna Stadium and the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium. The well-known and largest shopping centre, Capital Hypermarket and recently opened famous amusement, Water Boom are also in township. 5 South Korean companies have teamed up to build a 500-megawatt gas-fired combined cycle power plant in Thaketa Township to supply electricity to Thilawa Special Economic Zone.

Thilawa Special Economic Zone is a 2,500 hectares (6,200 acres) special economic zone being developed in Kyauktan and Thanlyin Townships, 25 kilometres (16 mi) south of Yangon. In the early days of this new township, there are little population but becoming crowded and fast developed since 5 years ago. Township has little apartments but unused yards and detached houses are plenty in.
