A private eight-bedroom estate on the west coast of Phuket, Thailand, is hitting the auction block next month.
With open views of the Andaman Sea, the 65,950-square-foot compound, called Villa Sawan, includes eight bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a 25-meter swimming pool with a paddling area and two additional pools, the listing says.
“Sawan means ‘heaven’ in Thai, and the owners wanted to feel as if they were in heaven on earth at home,” said Lyndon Phillips of Prime Real Estate Phuket, who is in cooperation with Concierge Auctions on the sale.
The property is located within Trisara, one of Phuket’s luxurious beach resorts. Online bidding starts Dec. 6 and ends in New York City with a live event on Dec. 12.
The estate was built in 2004 and improvements have been made on the home through 2010, according to Daniel Sparkman, auction director for Concierge Auctions, which is offering the property without a reserve price. Although it’s never been listed, the estate has a market value of $23 million, according to Mr.
Phillips, who has around 15 years of experience in the luxury real estate market on Phuket.
The owners, who prefer to remain anonymous, have been using it as a family home on a number of occasions, but their situation has changed and it’s not used much at all, Mr. Phillips said. Mansion Global could not confirm the identity of the owners of the property.
Stepping inside the wood doors, the home features vaulted ceilings, a 14-seat dining area, fitness and yoga centers, a steam room, a private cinema and a home office with a meeting room, according to the listing.
“The style of the Villa Sawan was inspired by traditional Thai techniques and adapted Khmer design from Angkor Wat,” Mr. Phillips said, referring to the 12th-century Cambodian temple built for the Khmer Empire.
The resort that hosts the estate is situated on 14 hectares of a protected nature preserve, according to a statement from Concierge Auctions, and is home to PRU, Phuket's only Michelin-starred restaurant that is known for its locally-sourced fusion dishes. The new owners will also have access to additional amenities offered by the resort, which includes a spa, an infinity pool, tennis courts and cruise trips to nearby islands.
“Thailand has great air quality, great food. People here are a lot more laid back and there are no usual stresses,” Mr. Phillips said. Attracted by the country’s lifestyle, sun and beaches, he moved from Oxford, England, to Thailand in 2005. There is an array of water-oriented activities to do regardless of the season.
“From November to April, the sea is really calm, and it’s great for swimming, boating, fishing; from mid-April to July when there’s wind chopping up the sea, it’s good for surfing,” Mr. Phillips said.
