A Beverly Hills mansion formerly owned by Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt hit the market Tuesday for $49 million.
The price tag is $7 million less than the $56 million it was expected to be listed for, according to an April report.
That price was an estimate, according to listing agent Susan Smith of Hilton & Hyland.
“We officially decided to go on the market just under $50 million, based on recent comps that have sold,” Ms. Smith told Mansion Global. “We’re not looking to test the market, we’re selling this home at a realistic price.”
The four-bedroom home was built in 1934 for two-time Academy Award winning actor Fredric March, famed for his roles in “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” (1931) and “The Best Years of Our Lives” (1946).
It was designed by famed Southern California architect Wallace Neff and “looks from the outside as it did in 1934,” Ms. Smith said. “It's never going to be replicated.”
Spread across three floors, the property has a dining room that seats up to 20, a bar room with an original fireplace that converts into a projector room, an exercise room, a pool and an outdoor living area with a fireplace, according to the listing.
Ms. Aniston, 50, and Mr. Pitt, 55, paid $12.5 million for the home in 2001 using a trust, records with PropertyShark show.
During their tenure they spent several years remodeling the home, Ms. Smith said, which included the addition of the home’s multimillion dollar tennis court pavilion and guest house.
But despite the renovation, every room has pretty much kept its architectural integrity and the floorplan is the same as when it was built, though it’s been upgraded with “all the bells and whistles,” according to Ms. Smith.
The current owner, hedge funder Jonathan Brooks, purchased the home from Mr. Pitt and Ms. Aniston in 2006. They divorced in 2005. Mr. Brooks paid $22.5 million, records show.
Mr. Brooks could not be reached for comment.
Like the former owners, he has put his stamp on the home, too.
“My client ended up finishing what [Ms. Aniston and Mr. Pitt] didn’t do,” Ms. Smith said, like the master bedroom, which he fitted out in an Art Deco style.
