The modern estate of late Hollywood filmmaker Jerry Weintraub—who produced “Ocean’s Eleven” and “The Karate Kid”—has sold in Palm Desert, California, for $6.825 million, according to property records.
The lavish, modern estate with two side-by-side pools and nearly automated everything—from sliding glass doors to remote-controlled fireplaces—closed last week. A keen entertainer, Weintraub built the home in the early 2000s to accommodate parties and guests, including A-listers such as George Clooney and Matt Damon.
“He wanted a property that was really great for entertaining,” creating huge indoor-outdoor living spaces, said agent Richard Bartholomew with the Agency.
Weintraub, who died in 2015 at the age of 77, designed the pool to hug the side of the house so closely that he could step in for a swim directly from his master bathroom, said Mr. Bartholomew, who was co-listing the home with David Findley, also of The Agency.
The 9,150-square-foot main house is part of the prestigious Bighorn Country Club, which encourages its residents to build homes that mirror the surrounding desert mountain terrain, Mr. Bartholomew said. In keeping with that aesthetic, Weintraub’s former residence features a curving slate facade with water features and rugged angular roofline, images of the home show.
The home first went up for sale for more than double what it ultimately sold for last week, listing with the country club’s marketing arm in 2016 for $16 million.
Among the estate’s more star-studded gatherings was a party for the cast of “Ocean’s Twelve” that included Mr. Damon, Mr. Clooney, Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, according to an article about the property in Big Horn’s in-house magazine.
In total, the estate has five bedrooms, a separate guest house and a custom pub with a design inspired by the bar at London’s historic Claridge’s hotel. There’s also a floating fireplace and a home theater, according to The Los Angeles Times, which first reported the sale.
