The three-parcel property on the Tiburon hills offers views of San Francisco’s most famous sites A gated estate in the San Francisco Bay Area with ties to Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, is being quietly sold—meaning you won’t find it on any listing sites—for $12 million.
The Metallica co-founder and drummer, Mr. Ulrich bought the home in 1993 for an unknown price before transferring his ownership in 2007 to a trust controlled by a lawyer for Metallica, records with PropertyShark show.
Mr. Ulrich, 55, was shown in records as the beneficiary of the trust.
The home, which has been available to buy since last week, is perched on the highest peak in Tiburon, just north of San Francisco, in Marin County, California.
The views are "totally unsurpassed in Marin," said listing agent Steven Mavromihalis of Compass, in an email statement to Mansion Global.
"The location of the home crowning the Tiburon hills gives unobstructed views of the Golden Gate Bridge to the Bay Bridge with the city skyline in between."
The property spans more than 13,000 square feet and has six bedrooms, six full bathrooms, three half bathrooms and five fireplaces.
Other amenities include an underground basketball court, a sound studio that doubles as a safe room, a games room and a bathroom aquarium, according to the listing.
There is also an art studio and an art storage room. Mr. Ulrich is an avid art collector, and in 2008, his 1982 painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat, "Untitled (Boxer)" sold for $13.5 million at a Christie's contemporary art auction.
The estate is comprised of three separate parcels that total more than two acres, according to the listing.
Mr. Ulrich has been the drummer for the Grammy-winning Metallica since 1981, when he founded the band in Los Angeles along with frontman James Hetfield. He could not be reached for comment.
Metallica bandmate Kirk Hammett has also listed his San Francisco mansion for $11.9M.
Metallica is currently on its WorldWired tour through the U.S. and Europe.
