Bollywood is the way for many to achieve name, fame, and money, only if they succeed in winning the audience's hearts. However, there are instances in the industry when actors or actresses make their debut with much fanfare, but their end is devastating.
They lose money, status, and stardom as quickly as they gained it.
And there can be no better example of this than the tragic story of Vimi.
Vimi's Powerpack Debut
While today Vimi's name might not ring a bell for many, there was a time in the late '60s when she made fans go gaga over her.
Vimi was discovered by music director Ravi at a party.
Due to her charisma and charming personality, the actress made her debut in Hamraaz, starring opposite Sunil Dutt. At that time, this was a huge achievement, as not many actresses made such a powerful debut.
Vimi's Career Peak
By the time Vimi entered Bollywood, she was already married to Shiv Agarwal, the son of an industrialist.
The couple had a daughter and a son.
Vimi's first impression became the lasting one, as her debut became a blockbuster at the box office, after which she received plenty of offers from big stars and directors to work with them.
Soaring with success, Vimi worked in big films like Aabroo alongside Ashok Kumar and Patanga opposite Shashi Kapoor. At one point, Vimi became the highest-paid actress in the B-town industry.
An Unexpected Downfall in Vimi's Career
However, as soon as Vimi tasted success, little did she know that her downfall was knocking at the door.
After a few hits, Vimi's movies shifted from being hits to merely surviving in theaters.
By the early '70s, the actress was forced to fade into obscurity. She then featured in cameo roles or even played uncredited dancer parts, like in Kahin Aar Kahin Paar.
Vimi Was Forced into Prostitution
Another massive breakdown came in Vimi's life when she and her husband separated.
An obituary that surfaced after Vimi's death revealed that the actress had been facing domestic violence from her husband.
After separating from her husband, Vimi's life took another drastic turn. She fell in love with a small-time producer named Jolly.
While the actress thought her love story would bloom into something beautiful, it turned out completely the opposite. She was exploited in that relationship.
If reports from News18 are to be believed, Vimi was forced into prostitution by the producer.
However, somehow Vimi escaped the toxicity, tried to piece herself together, and considered starting a new business.
Vimi's Business That Flopped Too
Vimi ventured into a textile business in Calcutta, but it too failed and was sold off to settle her debts. Reports suggest that by her early 30s, the actress was completely bankrupt.
To cope with her despair, she turned to alcohol, which severely impacted her health.
In 1977, at the age of 34, Vimi passed away due to liver complications.
Tragically, she was alone at the time of her death, and her body was reportedly transported for cremation in a cart typically used by a grain seller.
